The LIGHT House
The LIGHT House has been providing Christ-centered maternity care, adoption services and on-going ministry to young mothers and their babies in the Kansas City area for thirty years. Originally founded by Youth-for-Christ, The LIGHT House became an affiliate of MBCH Children and Family Ministries in 2012.
It is often difficult for a teenager experiencing an unplanned pregnancy to find an agency that will support her choice to give birth to her baby instead of getting an abortion.
The LIGHT House provides residential services in a large home that is clean, beautifully furnished and private. The staff provides a loving, friendly and safe environment for the young ladies who come to live there. In 2015, 11 young mothers were served and 6 infants were born who may not have seen life without The LIGHT House. 3 toddlers were also a part of the maternity home family.
The adoption agency of The LIGHT House facilitated the adoption of
4 infants. Services were provided to 16 birth mothers (3 who chose adoption, 6 who chose to parent and 7 in aftercare following delivery).
The outreach program aids young mothers who do not need residential services but can benefit from practical, physical and spiritual services which support their decision to choose life for their babies. 56 young mothers participated in Bible study and sessions teaching parenting skills, nutrition, and life/leadership skills. 732 packages of diapers were given to these young mothers. Clients in the outreach program are able to earn “coupons” for participation which they can use to “purchase” diapers, wipes, bottles, strollers, car seats, and clothes in the Baby Boutique.
The HOPE Line (816-916-4434) is answered 24/7 by trained staff who are available to listen and explain the services available through The LIGHT House.
"Being at the Lighthouse has really benefitted me – not just as a roof over my head but as a way to build character. This time last year I’ve would never have thought my life would be where it is now. But no matter the circumstance, God has a purpose and plan for my life and being at the Lighthouse has definitely encouraged that belief."
