MBCH CHILDREN AND FAMILY MINISTRIES TO LAUNCH NEW “DAY HAVEN” PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
PECULIAR, MO. – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) Children & Family Ministries (CFM) is pleased to announce the official ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration of Day Haven on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Now open and actively receiving clients, this exciting new Day Haven program expands MBCH CFM’s Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) ministry in Peculiar, building upon the strong foundation of the existing Country Haven ministry to serve adults across the broader community.
Day Haven will focus on serving adults, ages 18 and older, with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program is designed to accommodate up to 49 participants, providing a safe, Christ-centered environment where individuals can thrive and grow.
To house the program, MBCH-CFM transformed the former Residential Boys Home on the Byrne Campus. The newly remodeled facility features specialized themed spaces designed to enrich client experiences, including:
- Life Skills: Practical training for daily independence.
- Creative Outlets: Dedicated spaces for art and creative expression.
- Body and Sensory Needs: Specialized environments for physical wellness and sensory regulation.
- Community Integration: Structured programming to facilitate regular outings and community engagement.
“Our goal is to create a space that doesn’t just provide care but truly honors the dignity of each individual we serve,” said Dawn Hensley, MBCH-CFM Program Director. “By transforming this building into a vibrant hub of activity and learning, we are opening new doors for adults with disabilities in our community.”
A Call for Community Partners While Day Haven is now operational, MBCH-CFM continues to invite local churches, Sunday School classes, organizations, and individuals to partner in enhancing the facility and its offerings. Ongoing support opportunities include:
- Room Enhancement & Sponsorship: Sponsoring or contributing funds for additional resources, materials, and furnishings within specific themed rooms.
- Financial Contributions: Donating toward specialized equipment, supplies, and long-term program sustainability.
Those interested in volunteering, donating services, or “adopting” a room are encouraged to contact Charles Phillips at [email protected] by calling 816-289-0005.
