MBCH CHILDREN AND FAMILY MINISTRIES To Launch New “Day Haven” Program For Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PECULIAR, MO. – Missouri Baptist Children’s Home (MBCH) Children & Family Ministries (CFM) is pleased to announce the launch of Day Haven, a new Day Hab program designed to expand its Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) ministry. Located at the Byrne Campus in Peculiar. This initiative builds upon the foundation of the existing Country Haven ministry to serve the broader community.
Day Haven will focus on serving adults ages 18 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program is designed to accommodate up to 49 participants, providing a safe, Christ-centered environment where individuals can thrive and grow.
To house the new program, MBCH-CFM is currently remodeling the former Residential Boys Home on the Byrne Campus. The renovated space will be reimagined to include themed rooms focused on:
- Life Skills: Practical training for daily independence.
- Creative Outlets: Spaces for art and expression.
- Body and Sensory Needs: Specialized environments for physical wellness and sensory regulation.
- Community Integration: Facilitating regular outings and community engagement for all clients.
“Our goal is to create a space that doesn’t just provide care, but truly honors the dignity of each individual we serve,” said Dawn Hensley, MBCH-CFM Program Director. “By transforming this building into a vibrant hub of activity and learning, we are opening new doors for adults with disabilities in our community.”
A Call for Community Partners MBCH-CFM is inviting local churches, Sunday School classes, organizations, and individuals to partner in this mission. Opportunities to help include:
- Construction & Labor: Assisting with interior renovations and outdoor projects.
- Room Adoption: Sponsoring and furnishing specific themed rooms.
- Infrastructure: Support is specifically needed for the construction of a new parking lot and an accessible pathway to the facility entrance.
- Donors: Financial contributions to fund the renovation and long-term sustainability of the program.
The Day Haven project is expected to be completed by Summer 2026, with a soft opening date to follow.
