Community Based Programs Offered through The LIGHT House

Tuesday Night Outreach Group

The Outreach Program is offered to aid young mothers who do not need residential services but can benefit from practical, physical, and spiritual needs to support them in their decision to choose life for their babies. The Outreach Program serves young mothers who are either going through pregnancy or already have young children. Young mothers may join the Outreach program before their youngest child turns 2 years old. By being involved in the Outreach Program, mothers are expected to learn parenting, life, and personal development skills to exceed self-sufficiently. Each year a number of topics are covered through Outreach programming.

Parenting

Choosing Quality Daycare, Infant CPR, Car Seat Safety, Nurturing Parenting, Infant Massage, Child Development, Library Resources, Read from the Start, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Child Abuse Prevention

Nutrition / Health Care

Drug Abuse Prevention, Process of Labor/Preparation for Childbirth, Immunizations, Lead Poisoning Prevention, Infant Baby Feeding, Food Safety, Nutrition During Pregnancy, Healthy Food Choices on a Budget

Life Skills / Personal Development

Healthy Self-Esteem, Leadership in the Home (Budgeting, Finance, Education), Car Safety, Job Readiness (Resume Writing, Interview Skills), Basic Self-Defense, Finding Safe Housing, Anger Management, Healthy Relationships, Personal Testimonies

Bible Study

Bible Study topics are relevant to young adults and topics covered include: developing an identity in Christ, Godly parenting, prayer, God’s love, healing from painful relationships, and Godly relationships.

Schedule

An evening at Outreach lasts approximately two hours.

A sample evening timeline is as follows:

  • 5:15-6:05pm Outreach Participants are able to shop in the Baby Boutique and eat snacks/visit before class begins
  • 5:15-7:30pm Childcare available for Outreach Participants
  • 6:10-6:15pm Announcements & Prayer
  • 6:15-7:00pm Class on Parenting/Life Skills or Relevant Topic
  • 7:00-7:30pm Outreach Participants are able to shop in the Baby Boutique

The Baby Boutique is also open after class is over to ensure all participants are able to shop.

The Baby Boutique

All individuals enrolled in any of our programs are able to earn points for participation, which they can use to purchase items in our Baby Boutique. The Baby Boutique is stocked with personal care and baby items – like diapers, wipes, bottles, car seats, clothes, and more.

 

Home-Based Pregnancy Services

A new program for young moms who are facing an unplanned pregnancy and would like some additional in-home support.

Visits:  This program offers 1-2 in-home visits/month for Missouri residents.

Education:  The following topics will be covered:  Safe Sleep, Breastfeeding, Folic Acid, Substance Use and Pregnancy, Prenatal Care, Immunizations, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Car Seat Safety, Nutrition and Healthy Eating, Birth Spacing, Nurturing skills for the family

Incentives:

  • Participants are eligible to receive diapers, wipes, and additional basic infant care items.
  • Once 3 visits are complete, mom earns a Pack ‘N Play and an Infant Car Seat.
